Description
Weld Star ER 316L TIG wire is an austenitic, low-carbon stainless steel filler rod, meticulously engineered for high-performance Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG). Its composition—featuring 19% Chromium, 12% Nickel, and 2.8% Molybdenum—is specifically designed to minimize intergranular carbide precipitation, allowing for superior resistance to intergranular corrosion without the need for stabilizers such as niobium or titanium.
With enhanced molybdenum content, this wire provides excellent creep resistance in halide atmospheres and outstanding pitting resistance in acidic environments. It is the premier choice for joining molybdenum-bearing austenitic alloys (such as AISI 316, 316L) and for high-pressure piping, high-temperature service applications, and chemical processing. It is also commonly used in dairy, pharmaceutical, and maritime fabrication due to its hygienic, high-quality, and clean weld metal.
