Safe Use and Handling of Oxy-Fuel Gas Systems, Aligned to BCGA CP7 and CP47

Oxy-fuel gas equipment is used daily across engineering, fabrication, construction and maintenance, yet the risks it carries are easy to underestimate. Our oxy-fuel gas training gives users, operators and supervisors the knowledge and confidence to work safely, meet their legal duties and keep everyone around them protected. As professional members of the British Compressed Gas Association (BCGA), we deliver recognised training aligned to Code of Practice 7 and 47 (CP7 and CP47) for businesses in Northamptonshire and right across the UK. What Oxy-Fuel Gas Training Covers

This is a one-day course built for anyone who uses, oversees or is responsible for oxy-fuel gas welding, cutting and heating equipment. It focuses on the practical understanding your team needs to handle equipment correctly and reduce risk on the job.

Training covers the safe use, storage and handling of oxy-fuel gas systems, including individual portable and mobile cylinder supply. Delegates learn how the equipment works, how to set it up and shut it down safely, and how to spot and prevent the hazards that come with gas welding and cutting work. By the end of the day, your staff will understand the associated risks and the control measures that must be in place to manage them.

CP7 relates to the safe use of oxy-fuel gas equipment with individual portable or mobile cylinder supply. CP47 relates to the safe use of individual portable or mobile cylinder gas supply equipment. Together, these codes of practice support Regulation 9 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, which requires employers to ensure staff are adequately trained in the use of work equipment. Oxy-fuel gas equipment falls squarely within that duty.

Why Your Staff Need This Course

Both employers and employees share responsibility for making sure people are properly trained for the tasks they carry out. Anyone using oxy-fuel gas equipment owes a duty of care to themselves and to those around them who could be affected by their work.

Proper oxy-fuel safety training helps you meet that responsibility. It reduces the likelihood of accidents, supports your health and safety obligations, and gives supervisors the assurance that their teams understand how to work with gas cutting and welding equipment correctly. For many businesses, it is a straightforward way to demonstrate competence and strengthen a safety culture on site.

Who Should Attend

Our oxy-fuel training suits a wide range of roles, including:

  • Operators who use oxy-fuel gas welding, cutting and heating equipment
  • Supervisors and managers responsible for teams working with gas equipment
  • Maintenance and fabrication staff who handle portable or mobile cylinder supply
  • Businesses introducing oxy-fuel cutting training as part of their induction or refresher programmes

Whether your team needs foundational flame cutting training or a refresher on safe handling, the course adapts to the experience level in the room.
