The ESAB OK 48.00 is a premium E7018 H4 R low-hydrogen electrode optimized for high-productivity welding on carbon and carbon-manganese steels. It features a moisture-resistant coating and is supplied in VacPac vacuum packaging to ensure extremely low diffusible hydrogen levels (< 4.0 ml/100g) without the need for re-baking. This electrode offers excellent all-position weldability, particularly in vertical-up applications, and delivers a smooth, stable arc with easy slag removal.
Description
The ESAB OK 48.00 is a versatile LMA (Low Moisture Absorption) basic electrode engineered for critical structural applications where high stress and difficult conditions are unavoidable. Its formulation ensures it is relatively insensitive to variations in base material composition, making it a dependable choice for a wide range of mild and low-alloy steels, including fine-grained steels with elevated yield strength.
- Superior Moisture Protection: The VacPac hermetically sealed packaging guarantees fresh, dry electrodes directly from the box. This eliminates the need for expensive holding ovens or on-site re-drying, while the H4 R designation confirms the electrode maintains low moisture pickup even after exposure to high humidity.
- Weldability & Performance: It provides exceptional operator appeal with a stable arc and a special graphite tip for effortless arc initiation. The electrode is designed for high deposition efficiency and high-speed welding in the vertical-up position, resulting in clean, X-ray quality welds with minimal spatter.
- Mechanical Integrity: The weld metal deposits are highly crack-resistant and maintain excellent impact toughness at low temperatures, with Charpy V-notch values typically reaching 130 J at -30°C. It is tested and compliant with NACE TM0177 and TM0284 standards for resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking.
- Application Scope: Widely utilized in heavy industries such as offshore fabrication, power generation, pressure vessel manufacturing, and civil construction. It is compatible with DC+(-) current for optimal performance, though it also functions effectively on AC in certain configurations.
